The Käthe-Kollwitz-Berufskolleg (KKBK) is a vocational college in the north of Oberhausen, embedded in a beautiful green area of the Ruhr Area. We offer 80% full-time schooling in the following areas: nutrition and care, health/education and social work, personalchygiene, media/media technology. Our dual system is made up of salespersons in the food trade and hairdressers.
We have been an accredited Erasmus+ school since 2021 - the programme is now well established among students and trainees (986 in total) in a total of 7 courses. We support short-term mobilities of our students to Dublin (work-based internships), Málaga (language courses) and Malta (language courses). In the area of further training for teachers (82 in total) and non-teaching staff (9 in total), we attach particular importance to promoting our focus areas in the area of school development: salutogenic behaviour in everyday school life and in management, sustainability and environmental protection, digital teaching and learning and inclusive teaching. Since 2023, we have also been taking part in the small-scale school project Digital Linguistic Inclusion to promote the social and intercultural skills of socially disadvantaged pupils in particular. In order to successfully participate in the project, all students and teachers involved have taken part in ebook training courses as well as project planning courses with focus on how to make our international presence grow from the bottom to the top. Results, experiences and findings from all forms of mobility are not only evaluated separately by the Erasmus+ Team and the school's management but also regularly incorporated into the daily work of teaching by everyone in the school community as can be seen during school-wide action days on which the entire school community exchanges ideas, receives further training in competences and multiplies valuable content.
In order to strengthen our international profile, we attach great importance to the further development of language courses and the acquisition of language certificates (Europass) thus we successfully implemented support and specialisation courses for our students such as: Vocational English "Medical English" and the KMK foreign language certificate in health sciences. As an impulse school in language network, working on German and English as a second language, our team of teachers regularly organises network meetings and job shadowings to introduce schools to the implementation of language support in all subjects. As a vocational college with the seal of quality "Individual Support", we do support our students on various levels.
