C.N.I Matei Basarab is one of the biggest schools in Romania, also rated in the 10th best schools in our country. Our school, situated in the southern part of the Carpathian Mountains, has about 2125 students and 123 teachers coordinated by one headmistress and three deputies. Additionally, the school has also around 20 administrative employees. There are 3 educational levels: the primary, the secondary and the high school. Our general profile is informatics, our students learn two foreign languages but other subjects are also important, such as sciences, geography, social studies etc. In our school, informatics is mandatory for secondary and high school students (but the number of classes is getting higher in high school groups) and having an international diploma for digital abilities is also compulsory to graduate high school in our country. It is important that our students acquire as many abilities as possible in order to graduate the high school but also to actively contribute to the regional development. In our school, it is essential for our students to improve their abilities in order to be more competitive on the labor market. The school is situated in a beautiful area with huge touristic potential insufficiently exploited. The chemical factory of the town was closed and the unemployment rate has grown. The only solution is to focus on the development of an eco-tourism, to protect the areas around and to promote an eco-friendly accommodation and services. The young people are the entrepreneurs of tomorrow: in order to promote and develop a business in tourism area, they need to be able to communicate, to use ICT and to promote true values internalized by themselves and their families. Due to the project, our students will be highly motivated to improve their abilities and to enlarge their vision about our world and be motivated in finding solutions for the contemporary issues, especially digital ones because the IC tools are the future in every economical sector. The project will primarily be a great opportunity for our students specialized in ICT: we have 8 classes in high school that are specialized in software and IC tools but the Romanian learning system is still based on theory and less on practice in order for the students to get real professional skills and to be able to use all that in their jobs. This project will allow our school to be more focused on skills and will help the students to develop their professional abilities. But like every European project, this is also a great opportunity to develop our personal skills, our emotional intelligence which is one of the smallest chapters in the Romanian educational system. Our students need opportunities to communicate, work in a group, focus on a task, cooperate and publicly speak via developing their listening skills, communicational ones, empathy, inclusivity, and open mindness. We are also trying to include students with fewer opportunities like students having medical issues or financial problems. In our school, there are students with autism, facing depression or anxiety problems or fighting for the gender recognition rights. They are welcome in all our projects as the inclusion is an important part of our Erasmus plan of development together with the protection of the environment.
